So much to do and so little time!

I love to visit studios where creating something out of a simple material is the norm wether it be glass, clay or paint.  It has always been a place of wonder and possibilities in my mind. Two studios I love to visit are Superior Hot Glass and Brickstudios and this weekend I will have work at both studios.

Superior Hot Glass is located at 1588 E. 40th St. just off Superior in Cleveland, Ohio.  The studio is having their annual open studios and will have guest artist's selling work and ongoing glass blowing demonstrations.  The days and hours for this event are Saturday December 2nd 10am-7pm & Sunday December 3rd Noon - 5pm.
The studio is tucked behind the Shovelworks building (1558 E. 40th.)  http://superiorhotglass.com/

Waterloo studios will be open for first Friday, December 1st and you can find my hearts along with many other artisan works at Brickstudios located 420 E. 161 St. in Cleveland, Ohio.  Brick Holiday Sale will have a first look preview Friday Dec. 1st 6-9pm through January 6th.  Regular hours are Monday 5-9pm and Wed. & Sat. Noon-4pm.  Check out the many other galleries in the area for events and times.  https://www.facebook.com/WaterlooArtsDistrict/
http://www.brickceramics.com/

I hope to see you at one of these events and if you and some friends would like to stop by the studio please email and we can set up a time.  tyondo@windstream.net

November 2017 Studio, Class info. and Shows

Greetings from Concept to Creation, the studio of Theresa Yondo.

The cold has arrived in the Northern Hemisphere here in Novelty, Ohio.  Gardening is nearly laid to rest and thoughts turn to staying warm and keeping the light on until the daylight returns.  The lack of daylight can easily put me into a drunken stupor figuratively speaking.  This seems to be a good time to relearn wood firing techniques.  The image above is the kiln on Brinsley Tyrrell's property.  Last week I met the crew and helped out with the firing.  We will be unloading on Thursday and I will have work in the next kiln.  I look forward to adding this activity to my world of ceramics

September class info and shows

Greetings from Concept to Creation, the studio of Theresa Yondo.

Hello Dear Family, Friends and Lovers of Clay,

I have enjoyed the break from teaching summer classes and I am ready to dive in again.  The summer break has allowed me to work on some new ideas.  It will be a while before I can share them with you as creating in clay is so process oriented which can take months.

So, with the Fall Equinox just around the corner, I am ready to begin a new cycle.

Companions

More work that is emerging from the glaze kiln after months of making. This work is being held for an exhibition in Louisville Kentucky.

I recently started glazing work with the thought of the objects being companions.  Having the work talk to each other rather than just having the object staring back while you are looking is the goal.  I have not yet taken the step to price the work together.  I think that is the next step so the companions are not separated.  After they leave my possession it is up to the buyer to decide their fate.

Glaze Firing Results

I am finally getting some finished work out of the kiln after months of making.  These are the small petite bowls I make. They can be used for salt bowls or dipping bowls. Perfect for butter, jam or a few nuts. Patrons have also used them for jewelry, beads and other little treasures.

What's going on? (In the words of Marvin Gaye)

Hello August and where did July go?

I am taking a break this month from studio classes except for a few regulars stopping in for this or that.

Classes will resume September 13th and 14th.  Next session I will be offering the same Wednesday evening class and will be switching Wednesday morning to Thursday morning.

So mark your calendars and give me a heads up if you will be joining the group.

On another note, I have been doing much making and will now be glazing before I start having anxiety attacks from all the work piling up around me.  I can hardly wait to start posting some of the results.

This is what it looks like just before I start to glaze the hearts.

Every Window Tells a Different Story - Ongoing

The window series I am working on is now titled Every Window Tells a Different Story - Ongoing.
I find myself replacing or swapping out windows in the installation and plan on building additional panels so ongoing it is.

I have had more interest in patrons wanting to buy some of the individual windows.  So far I have sold one and am holding off selling any more right now.

I will keep you posted but may not have additional panels to show until December.

I am curious to see how all this unfolds.

The Creative Process and letting it unfold.

It is pretty cold here in Novelty Ohio. I woke up this morning and the temperature reading was 14 degrees. March 15th and 14 degrees.

I have been doing much cleaning and organizing in the studio which is one of the reasons why I have not been posting images of new work. That and the fact that my phone will not let me send off images right now. Back to using the designated camera I guess.

My mind is focused on the creative process right now anyway. I have been a bit distracted by looking at botany. I'm a bit smitten right now with the protective function of the sepal on a flower.
When I think about Buddhist iconography I wonder if their is any reference to the function of the sepal in relationship to the lotus.
This curiosity seemed worth sharing.  Here is an explanation of the meaning of the lotus flower in Buddhism.
https://buddhists.org/buddhist-symbols/the-meaning-of-the-lotus-flower-in-buddhism/

I just need time for the creative process to unfold before diving in again with the making.

A New Year Begins 2017

Happy New Year to All.

With 2016 behind us and 2017 beginning I wanted to thank everyone for your friendship, patronage and continued support in helping to create a world where clay work has a place.

I continue to explore texture and glaze on the small sculptural objects I make such as the hearts and with the functional work pattern and contrast with the wax resist technique.  Two days a week I still work at McGregor Retirement Community facilitating art therapy projects.  I can hardly believe I have been there 5 years.  And on Wednesdays, I continue to teach privately out of my studio.  This schedule sometimes gives me Thursday through Sunday to immerse myself in studio work.

I already have started the New Year with the possibility of having two new wholesale accounts, one in Texas and one in Cincinnati, Ohio, and two private clay parties scheduled so the journey continues to unfold.

The studio classes will begin one week from today on January 11th.  There now are 6 wheels and a slabroller in the studio.
