MARCH FORTH

One of the best parts about teaching is the personal stories that students tell a teacher.  Studio art classes tend to be very interactive between teacher and students and many stories are shared.  One student, named Linda, created the holiday March Forth on March 4th.  With the end of winter near and daylight still short, I found this thought to be a brilliant light for these early days of March.  So, keep putting one foot in front of the other, meditate on loving kindness and MARCH FORTH.

Upcoming Show at Lakeland Community College 2013

Last night, I delivered work to Lakeland Community College in Kirtland OH. for the "from Woman VI Show".  These organic porcelain shapes are hand built and bisque fired to ^ 05 then glazed with many layers and fired to ^10.  The current clay I am using is Jack Troy Porcelain from Standard Ceramics in Pittsburgh PA.  I make most of the glazes I use.  There may be one or two underglazes that I purchase and use from time to time.  I am grateful for the opportunity to make work for this current exhibition.
Many thanks to the gallery director Mary Urbas and the College for the continued support given to the ARTS.  As a graduate of Lakeland Community College and previous member of the Adjunct Faculty I am very much in debt to the worldly knowledge gained at this institution.  Thank you George Somogyi, my first educator in the ARTS.  You hooked me!  I wish you were still around to enjoy the growth of your students.

Assembling Clay Shapes

I really do make other things besides hearts.  These two images show the concept stage of an organic flower shape.  I have been making many smaller clay shapes in order to assemble them  into larger shapes like this organic flower.  The flower made it through the bisque firing and is waiting to be glazed.  I am getting ready for a show at Lakeland Community College next month.  The work needs to be delivered in a few weeks.  Off to the studio to glaze for a few hours tonight while listening to the Grammy Awards.
