KIRK MANGUS - Memorial

"KIRK MANGUS, 1952 – 2013

Prof. Kirk Mangus, an extraordinary artist and head of our ceramics program, died suddenly last weekend after a short illness. Kirk was a beloved teacher and friend throughout his 28 years at Kent State University, and was immensely proud of his students. A prolific and inimitable artist, his work was shown and praised all over the country and all over the world. Please join us in extending our heartfelt condolences to Kirk’s wife Eva, his daughter Una, his son Jasper, his family and his many friends on this loss.

There will be a reception and memorial service to celebrate Kirk’s life on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the School of Art Gallery and adjacent auditorium. The reception, running from noon to 2 p.m., will include the sharing of poems and artwork; the memorial service will begin at 2. And once again, April Firstencel will open her home to “Charm the Heart” artists.  This year the show dates are Saturday, November 23, 1-8 pm and Sunday, November 24, Noon – 4 pm at 3124 Cordon Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio.  The 2013 artists include; April Firstencel (fabric creations), Maryann Posch / John Gulyas (silver jewelry), Catherine Butler (jewelry curiosities), Theresa Yondo (ceramics), Kris Barnes (felted dolls), Marianne Hite (fused glass), Wendy Mahon (batik), Taryn Zwolinski (whimsical drawings and cards), Kathleen Harrington (paintings), Barbara Claas (recycled flowers).

Cat and Laura will be celebrating Prosperity’s 25th Annual Holiday Party / Sale.  Can you believe it! It was just yesterday we were all in those old CSU studios making art.  Stop by and help to make this another memorable event on Sunday, December 1, 1-6p.m., 1814 East 40th St, #5E, Cleveland, Ohio.

The Last Minute Market is on Saturday, December 21st this year 10am-6pm.  More information to follow.

And, with harvesting the garden, teaching, studio work.  shows and living life as we know it,  I still have not organized a studio party/sale.  Any thoughts?  Let me know….

LOCAL GALLERIES…  Please remember and support local galleries which sell my work.  For a list of these galleries visit my blog at http://theresayondo.blogspot.com scroll down and view the right column for WHERE TO FIND MY WORK.  Some galleries have more work than others.  Phone the galleries to check on stock.
